Dear Boyne Boat Yard Friends and Customers,

Spring is just around the corner, and we are excited to get your boat in the water! We are steadily moving through our work requests for the winter. Chase, our service writer, has been in touch with our storage customers, confirming the winter work that they would like us to complete prior to launching their boats. Please reach out to him as soon as possible with any additional requests as our available time before launch is filling quickly.  Also, if you have a boat in a private storage location and need to get some repairs or detail work completed this winter, give us a call and let’s see if we can make that happen for you.

Vessel Maintenance Corner – Let’s Talk Impellers:

What is an impeller and why do we need one? An impeller is a hub with flexible rubber fins that pulls lake water into the engine. This water cools the engine. During operation, water keeps the impeller lubricated and prevents damage. If an impeller sits too long without being lubricated, there is a chance for rubber to dry out and break while in use.  Those little parts that break off could get sucked into your engine and that would mean a costly repair. Here at BBY, we recommend changing impellers every other season.

Employee Highlight: Stephanie

Stephanie is the bookkeeper for both Boyne Boat Yard and Van Dam Custom Boats, her role is crucial for all of us!  She is very much behind the scenes but an integral part of our daily lives here at the Boat Yard.  She keeps the financial side of the business running smoothly.  Stephanie has been with us for 4 years now and we look forward to many more.

When Stephanie is not at work, she enjoys cross stitching (her work is incredible!), hanging out with her dogs, sewing, and painting.

When asked what she loves about Boyne Boat Yard, this is what she said:

  • Favorite Boyne Boat Yard Project- My favorite types of projects at Boyne Boat Yard are the longer ones, where we get to know a little more about our customers.

  • Favorite 16 Acre Fundamental- So many of the 16 Acre fundamentals “speak” to me, but I have to say that my favorite is #9: Pay Attention to the Details. In my line of work, I find that when we pay attention to the details, the big things work themselves out.

  • Best Thing About Working at Boyne Boat Yard: The best thing about working at Boyne Boat Yard is the sense of family. This is true across our entire 16 Acres- we all look out for each other, enjoy each other’s successes (both personally and professionally) and commiserate together when faced with unfortunate circumstances.

Important Business Update: Early Launch Forms

Looking ahead to March, we'll be sending out Launch Forms a bit earlier than usual. This adjustment is crucial as the need for storage has grown. We'll be requesting a 25% non-refundable deposit for your storages pace during this time. This early communication helps us determine which boats will be returning and plan accordingly. The payment breakdown will be 25% deposit in early spring, 25% due at launch, and the remaining 50% at hull-out.

The 2024-2025 storage rates

Indoor heated $9.00 per square foot.

Indoor cold $7.00 per square foot.

Outdoor/ Mast up $5.25 per square foot.

Enjoy the rest of your winter season.  Looks like it will be an early spring.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
